Why did you stop selling the Rainsaver Kits?

Whilst we have been selling our kits very successfully for almost 15 years, regrettably several factors all came together in making the decision, in no particular order:

  • Raw guttering materials being discontinued by various manufacturers and persistent two to three times inflation price increases since 2020 (over 40% in one year alone)
  • Lack of availability of affordable carriage – cost of transporting long lengths exceeding £30.00 now commonplace (used to be in the region of £10.00 until 2019) – we cannot afford to subsidise these costs especially when things go wrong
  • Availability of quality affordable long packing/shipping boxes – not a lot people consider but bespoke boxes are required and spending £5 or more for a box to be just thrown away feels wrong.

Given these circumstances, the only sustainable and feasible means to continue selling kits and make it worthwhile operating the business (also after the tax-man’s cut) would have been to substantially increase the prices, making a simple two-bracket 6ft gutter kit over £115 with delivery, and didn’t feel this was a proposition of true value so we couldn’t in good conscience go down that route.

The fact the only truly unique component is our brackets, and these can be sent out in the normal post, and 76mm half round guttering can be acquired from local DIY stores like B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix etc, so the two brackets in a 6ft kit can be bought from our shop for £13.98, and getting guttering locally not only means a substantial saving in cost, but with a bit of simple diy hacksaw cutting, the lengths are better suited for the building required.

Combined with our brackets, the advantages of Hall’s Rainsaver can be retained, ease of fitting and allowing removal for maintenance or transfer to new building etc.
